Three Tenets created an Integrative Arts and Human Development Experience for SF Goodwill’s (GW) Workforce Coaching & Development Program Participants.

“Green and Blues'' was an interactive music presentation that honored the natural history of San Francisco through musical performance, original composition, poetry, art, and discussion, and was commissioned by the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival in 2012. Marcus Shelby composed the 12-part musical suite for a 15-piece orchestra and, in 2013, took the music into smaller venues around the city. Facilitated by Three Tenets, the first of these concerts was hosted in the former SF Goodwill building at 1500 Mission Street, and focused on the history of Market Street, South of Market, and Downtown, honoring the native flora, fauna, and Ohlone tribelets that used to inhabit the area.

Marcus Shelby (bass/speaker) and his quintet, included Tiffany Austin (vocals), Teodross Avery (tenor/soprano sax), Joe Warner (piano), and Howard Wiley (drums), presented compositions from the suite “Green and Blues: A Perspective on the Natural History of San Francisco.” The 90-minute presentation included additional field recordings, poetry, narratives, and an interactive discussion with the audience that was co-designed with Three Tenets, on the subjects of improvisation, call and response, teamwork, commitment, sustainability, creative communication, San Francisco history, and other topics and questions. The purpose of “Green and Blues” was to inspire the audience to learn more about their environment, be more responsible and caring for our planet, and bring the spirit of musical improvisation into their own development — including how they lead their teams and participate in the organization. The presentation was free, open to the general public and for all ages.
